Baseball Game Preview: South Spencer Rebels vs. Evansville Christian Eagles

South Spencer is a perfect 3-0 against Evansville Christian since May of 2022 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Rebels will head out to face off against the Eagles at 5:30 p.m. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

South Spencer will roll into the contest after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up one run on Tuesday, then bounced right back against Tecumseh on Thursday. The Rebels came out on top against the Braves by a score of 11-1 (the very same score they lost by in their prior game). The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Rebels' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.

Mason Eble was a major factor no matter where he played. He tossed five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. Eble was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one run and one double. That double marked the first that he has hit this season.

In other pitching news, Tate Schulte looked comfortable as he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in five consecutive appearances.

Back at the plate, South Spencer got a massive performance out of Brody H, who went 4-for-5 with four RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Ty Brown, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.

South Spencer hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Tecumseh struck out seven times.

Evansville Christian came out on top against Loogootee on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive five-run sixth inning. The Eagles took their game against the Lions 8-3. That five run margin sets a new team best for the Eagles this season.

South Spencer's record now sits at 6-4. As for Evansville Christian, they now have a winning record of 5-4.

South Spencer came out on top in a nail-biter against Evansville Christian in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, sneaking past 6-4. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Rebels since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
