The Spencer Greenwave came tearing into Friday's game with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 5.3 points) and they left with even more momentum. They managed a 60-54 win over Academy for Classical Education. Given Spencer's advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 163rd, while Academy for Classical Education is ranked 499th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Spencer to victory, but perhaps none more so than KeyShaun Sampton, who scored 17 points. Sampton is trending in the right direction, as he's improved his point production for three games straight. Joe Dozier was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with eight rebounds.
Academy for Classical Education lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being David Ruddell, who almost dropped a double-double on 15 points and nine rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Ruddell has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Camden Bailey, who scored 14 points along with five assists and two steals.
Even though they lost, Academy for Classical Education were working as a unit and finished the game with 14 assists. This was only their 14th loss (out of 19 games) when they've passed the ball that well.
Spencer's victory bumped their record up to 21-3. As for Academy for Classical Education, they have not been sharp recently as the team has lost 15 of their last 16 matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-18 record this season.
Spencer does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Academy for Classical Education, they won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Georgia Military College at 4:30 p.m. on February 10th. The two teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with 14 consecutive losses for Georgia Military College and five for Academy for Classical Education.
