The Kearns Cougars had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 10 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Tuesday. They put the hurt on Granger with a sharp 81-57 win. That 24 point margin sets a new team best for Kearns this season.
Anywan Kuang continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, almost dropping a double-double on 31 points and nine rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which he has scored at least a third of Kearns' points. Ivan Kaufusi was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with six rebounds.
When it comes to explaining why Granger lost, one person who can't be blamed is Daudi Aweyso. Despite the final result, he scored 32 points. Aweyso continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last four games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Stephen Kpaleh, who scored 11 points along with three blocks.
Kearns' victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-11. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 74.7 points per game. As for Granger, their loss dropped their record down to 3-14.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Kearns will take on the Miners at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Utah (Park City is ranked 110th, while the Cougars are ranked 101st). Granger is on the road again on Friday and plays the Soaring Eagle at 7:00 p.m. on February 2nd.
