The Douglas County Huskies will head out on the road to face off against the Regis Jesuit Raiders at 4:15 p.m. on Monday. Douglas County has given up an average of 7.2 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Douglas County took a ten-run defeat the last time they faced off against Castle View, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Huskies came out on top in a nail-biter against the Sabercats on Thursday, sneaking past 13-12. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Huskies.
The team relied heavily on Bricen Moore, who went 2-for-5 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in May of 2024. Gunner Gienger was another key player, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.
Douglas County was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .412. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
The home team had won the previous six meetings between Regis Jesuit and Legend, and Regis Jesuit kept the tradition alive. The Raiders came out on top against the Titans by a score of 6-2 on Wednesday.
Michael Kroll looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.
At the plate, Regis Jesuit's victory was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Isaac Konieczny, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Those RBI were Konieczny's first of the season. Another was Chase Massey, who got on base in two of his three plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.
Douglas County's record now sits at 5-8. As for Regis Jesuit, their record is now 8-5.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Douglas County has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.9 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Regis Jesuit struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.5 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Douglas County might still be hurting after the 18-5 loss they got from Regis Jesuit when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can the Huskies avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
