Baseball Recap: Tuesday's Win Is Cienega's Seventh in Last Eight Outings

Cienega lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Desert View, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Tuesday's game. The Bobcats blew past the Jaguars 13-6 on Tuesday. The Bobcats might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine matches by six runs or more this season.

ANTHONY MONTEZ made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (three). He was even better at the plate, going 4-for-5 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Cienega's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 7-8 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, JAMES LINZMEYER and LUTE CHAVEZ did most of the damage at the plate: LINZMEYER went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run, while CHAVEZ went 2-for-4 with two doubles and one RBI. Those two doubles gave CHAVEZ a new career-high. Another player making a difference was TRISTAN CRUZ, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.

Cienega kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in five consecutive contests.

Cienega has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight games. That's provided a massive bump to their 13-8 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.3 runs over those games. As for Desert View, they dropped their record down to 15-7 with the loss, which was their third straight on the road.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Cienega will host Marana at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Bobcats are facing the Tigers at the right time seeing as the Tigers are stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Desert View, they will be playing at home against Tucson High Magnet School at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Badgers will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something the Jaguars surely won't give up without a fight.
