The Swansboro Pirates will square off against the Ashley Screaming Eagle at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Swansboro is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.2 runs per game this season.
Swansboro had been on a four-game streak of scoring at least ten runs, but Jacksonville put an end to it on Friday. Swansboro lost 9-1 to Jacksonville. The match marked the Pirates' lowest-scoring game so far this season.
Addison McMillan spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned (and four unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up seven Ks. Furthermore, she didn't allow a single walk, the first time she has blanked an opponent since back in April of 2024.
On the hitting side, Swansboro saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Katherine Cahall, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.
Meanwhile, Ashley was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their seventh straight loss dating back to last season. They fell 10-5 to Topsail.
Vayda LeQuire made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Those hits were her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Leah Tuscany, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
Swansboro's defeat was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 3-3. As for Ashley, their loss dropped their record down to 0-5.
Ashley's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Swansboro has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9 hits per game. It's a different story for Ashley, though, as they've been averaging 9.8 hits. Given Swansboro's sizable advantage in that area, Ashley will need to find a way to close that gap.
Swansboro was able to grind out a solid win over Ashley in their previous matchup on Thursday, winning 10-7. Does Swansboro have another victory up their sleeve, or will Ashley turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
