Dwyer has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will face off against the Westwood Christian Warriors at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the pair will really light up the scoreboard.
Last Thursday, Dwyer didn't have too much trouble with Martin County at home as they won 68-54. Given Dwyer's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 17th, while Martin County is ranked 256th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Dwyer got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Amari Nealy out in front who scored 18 points along with seven rebounds and two steals. Nealy is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last seven games he's played. Another player making a difference was Jaironn Speights, who scored nine points along with six steals and five rebounds.
Meanwhile, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, Westwood Christian beat Cooper City 55-50 two weeks ago. Despite the win, that was the fewest points Westwood Christian has scored all year.
It was another big night for Ethan Taylor, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 17 rebounds. Taylor is absolutely dominating the rebound category: he's posted at least eight every time he's taken the court this season. Michael Vilmenay was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with five steals.
Dwyer's victory was their 13th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 13-1. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 68.2 points per game. As for Westwood Christian, their victory bumped their record up to 9-3.
Keep an eye on the arc in Saturday's contest: Dwyer have been dynamite from deep this season, having nailed 42.5% of their threes per game. It's a different story for Westwood Christian, though, as they've only nailed 18.3% of their threes per game this season. Given Dwyer's sizeable advantage in that area, Westwood Christian will need to find a way to close that gap.
