The Serena Huskers will head out on the road to take on the Somonauk Bobcats at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Serena's pitching crew has only allowed 3.4 runs per game this season, so Somonauk's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Serena gave up the first runs on Saturday, but they didn't let that get them down. Everything went their way against Ashton-Franklin Center as they made off with a 13-2 win. The result was nothing new for the Huskers, who have now won ten matches by ten runs or more so far this season.

Cassie Walsh was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 12 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off six hits (and only one walk). Those 12 strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in two of her four plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base.
In other batting news, Serena got a massive performance out of RayElle Brennan, who went 2-for-5 with four RBI, two doubles, and one run. That's the most doubles Brennan has posted over her last 11 contests. Another player making a difference was Brynley Glade, who went 2-for-5 with two triples, two runs, and one RBI.
Serena hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Ashton-Franklin Center struck out 11 times.
Meanwhile, it was close, but last Friday Somonauk sidestepped Plano for a 4-3 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Bobcats.
Kaydence Eade spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on three hits.
At the plate, Kennedy Barshinger was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and one stolen base. Brooke Bahrey was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two runs.
Serena has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-6 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Somonauk, their victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 7-8.
Monday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Serena hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .326. However, it's not like Somonauk struggles in that department as they've averaged .347. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Serena was able to grind out a solid win over Somonauk in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, winning 13-8. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Huskers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
