Malcolm and Central City/Centura are an even 4-4 against one another since April of 2022, but likely not for long. The Clippers will venture away from home to challenge the Kernels at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Malcolm will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.
Malcolm came out on top against Arlington on Friday thanks in part to the team's impressive seven-run fourth inning. The Clippers were the clear victors by a 10-0 margin over the Eagles. The Clippers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight contests by seven runs or more this season.
Not much got past Gavin Little, who gave up just three hits and racked up 12 Ks to keep Arlington off the board. Little has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Justin Wisnieski was a standout: he went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base. That's the most hits he has posted since back in May of 2025. Nolan Duzik was another key player, going a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Malcolm always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .531. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .531 or higher in three consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Central City/Centura didn't have quite enough to beat York on Thursday and fell 5-3.
Conner Erickson was huge no matter where he played even without the win. On the mound, he struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off five hits (and not a single walk). Erickson was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run.
Erickson wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Quinn Jensen, who went 1-for-4 with one double.
Malcolm's victory bumped their record up to 13-4. As for Central City/Centura, their loss dropped their record down to 12-4.
Saturday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Malcolm has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .481. However, it's not like Central City/Centura struggles in that department as they've averaged .438. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Malcolm got the 'W' when the teams last played back in May of 2025 against Central City/Centura by a conclusive 10-0 score. Will the Clippers repeat their success, or do the Kernels have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
