After a string of four wins, the Regents Lions's good fortune finally ran out on Saturday. They took a 45-34 hit to the loss column at the hands of Blue Ridge Christian. While losing is never fun, Regents can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 223rd, while Blue Ridge Christian is ranked 68th).
Despite the defeat, Regents saw an underclassman step up: Kaileen Harlow scored 23 points. That was a full 67.6% of Regents' points, marking the fifth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Keely McReynolds, who scored six points along with 11 rebounds and two steals.
Leading Blue Ridge Christian to victory were Anna Faith Brunk and Callie Paradzinski. Brunk scored 16 points along with nine rebounds and two steals, while Paradzinski scored 24 points along with six rebounds and five assists. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Paradzinski has scored all season.
Regents' loss dropped their record down to 7-5. As for Blue Ridge Christian, the win for they keeps them at an undefeated 8-0.
Regents' road trip will continue as they head out to face Grace Christian at 5:00 p.m. on January 20th. Grace Christian's defense has only allowed 27.1 points per game this season, so Regents' offense will have their work cut out for them. As for Blue Ridge Christian, they will face off against Christian Heritage Academy at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. Christian Heritage Academy comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 21 points in their last four games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse.
