Basketball Recap: Allegany Piles Up the Points Against Northern

A well-balanced attack led Allegany over Northern in every quarter on their way to victory on Saturday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that the Allegany Campers blew the Northern Patriots out of the water with a 63-19 final score. The Campers have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 12 games by 20 points or more this season.

Despite the defeat, Northern saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Erin Murphy dropped a double-double with ten points and ten rebounds. Northern is 11-5 when Murphy posts eight or more boards, but 1-4 otherwise.

The win was the fifth in a row for Allegany, bringing their record for this year to 16-3. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.2 points over those games. As for Northern, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matchups, which has put a noticeable dent in their 12-9 record this season.

Looking ahead, Allegany will face off against Fort Hill on Monday. Allegany knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past four contests -- so hopefully Fort Hill likes a good challenge. As for Northern, they will head out on the road to challenge Patterson Mill at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
