The Moffat County Bulldogs will square off against the Elizabeth Cardinals at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Moffat County had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 35 points), and they went ahead and made it four on Friday. They blew past Grand Valley 42-14 at home.
Moffat County can attribute much of their success to Ian Champ Hafey, who gained 99 total yards and two touchdowns, and Evan Beaver, who threw for 170 yards and three touchdowns on only 13 passes. The team also got some help courtesy of Zachary Hedman, who rushed for 60 yards and a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Elizabeth humbled The Classical Academy with a 35-7 victory. The score at the end of the third wound up being the final score as Elizabeth just coasted through the last quarter.
Gavin Garcia looked great while leading his team to the win, rushing for 76 yards and four touchdowns. Ethan Stone and his 83 yards on the ground were also a key factor in Elizabeth's victory.
Moffat County's win was their fifth straight at home (dating back to last season), bumping their overall record up to 7-2. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 46.0 points per game. As for Elizabeth, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 8-1.
Saturday's game might be decided on the ground as these two are both standouts in the run game. Moffat County has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 197.2 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Elizabeth struggles in that department as they've been even better at 283.7 per game. It's looking like Saturday's game might have some serious battles in the trenches.
Moffat County strolled past Elizabeth in their previous meeting back in October of 2020 by a score of 35-21. Does Moffat County have another victory up their sleeve, or will Elizabeth turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
