Del Oro hasn't had much luck against Oak Ridge recently, but that could start to change on Saturday. The Golden Eagles are taking a road trip to challenge the Trojans at 4:00 p.m. Del Oro is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.3 runs per game this season.
Del Oro is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Thursday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 6-5 win over Saint Francis. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Golden Eagles.
Del Oro let Caelyn Campos and Avyn Brower run wild. Campos went 2-for-3 with one home run, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Brower went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. Campos has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Emma Johnson, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.
They weren't the only ones working in the home run department: Del Oro lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Saint Francis didn't launched any home runs.
Meanwhile, Oak Ridge faced Whitney in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Trojans blew past the Wildcats 7-0. Considering the Trojans have won 14 games by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Whitney's batters probably weren't too happy with Ellison Schroeder, who pitched a no hitter (she gave up two walks).
On the hitting side, Gemma Almont was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Carmen Montes De Oca, who went 1-for-2 with two runs.
The victory was the sixth in a row for Oak Ridge, bringing their record up to 26-4. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Del Oro, their record is now 30-2.
Del Oro's speedy runners might be the difference in Saturday's matchup. The Golden Eagles have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.1 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Oak Ridge, though, as they've been averaging an even more impressive 1 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Del Oro continue to outrun the ball?
