The Middlesex Chargers will take on the Westmoreland Eagles at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Middlesex is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.6 runs per game this season.
Middlesex had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 16-run drubbing they dealt Mathews last Thursday. The Chargers never let the Blue Devils get on the board and left with a 16-0 victory. The win continues a trend for the Chargers in their matchups with the Blue Devils: they've now won four in a row.
Magen Daniels made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in May of 2024.
In other batting news, Kayleigh Moye was a standout: she went a perfect 4-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Libby Oliver, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI.
Meanwhile, Westmoreland sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 6-4 victory over Essex on Monday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Eagles have posted against the Trojans since April 25, 2023.
Essex's batters probably weren't too happy with Emma Burgess, who pitched a no hitter and racked up 17 Ks (she gave up four walks). Those 17 strikeouts set a new season-high mark for Burgess.
At the plate, Westmoreland secured the victory behind a pair of hitters. One of them was Hailey Jett, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.
Westmoreland hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Essex struck out 17 times.
Westmoreland now has a winning record of 9-8. As for Middlesex, their win bumped their record up to 13-6.
Westmoreland's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Middlesex hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .351.
