The Newcomb Skyhawks suffered their biggest loss yet this season on Wednesday. They had to suffer through a rough 62-31 loss at the hands of Tohatchi. While losing is never fun, Newcomb can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New Mexico basketball rankings (they are ranked 93rd, while Tohatchi is ranked 17th).
When it comes to explaining why Newcomb lost, one person who can't be blamed is Nevaeh Miller. Despite the final result, she scored 13 points along with eight rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Miller has scored all season. Lethia Yazzie was another key contributor, scoring four points along with five steals.
Newcomb dropped their record down to 8-9 with that defeat, which was their fourth straight on the road. As for Tohatchi, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 14-4.
Newcomb will look to defend their home court on Friday against Crownpoint at 7:00 p.m. Crownpoint is coming into the matchup on a four-game losing streak. As for Tohatchi, they will head out on the road to face off against Wingate at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
