It was a good run, but the Cristo Rey Tampa Panthers unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak on Wednesday. They took a 48-35 hit to the loss column at the hands of New Jerusalem Christian Academy.
Cristo Rey Tampa lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Tyler Evans, who scored ten points along with eight rebounds. Evans hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for six straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Bryan Vargas, who scored ten points.
New Jerusalem Christian Academy was led to victory by Donathan Edwards and Elijah Marcellus. Edwards scored 14 points, while Marcellus scored 16 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Edwards has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Jaylin Harris, who scored six points.
Cristo Rey Tampa's defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 8-8. As for New Jerusalem Christian Academy, the victory got them back to even at 8-8.
Cristo Rey Tampa will head out on the road to square off against the Royal Knights at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. That match will pit two of the most dominant guards against one another: JACOB YEAGER and Vargas. New Jerusalem Christian Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
