Decatur Community has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will take on the Norton Bluejays at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Decatur Community focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 16 on Friday.
Decatur Community scored the most points they've had all season to find success. They breezed by Greeley County at home to the tune of 54-27. Decatur Community pushed the score to 42-17 by the end of the third, a deficit the Jackrabbits had little chance of recovering from.
Decatur Community found their leader in underclassman Brylee Minnick, who scored 16 points along with eight rebounds and seven steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Minnick has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Jenna Fortin, who scored three points along with seven assists and two steals.
Meanwhile, after a string of three wins, Norton's good fortune finally ran out on Monday. They took a 49-43 hit to the loss column at the hands of Oakley. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Norton came into the matchup with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 30th, while the Plainsmen are ranked 150th).
Decatur Community is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 9-6 record this season. As for Norton, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 11-4.
Decatur Community came up short against the Bluejays when the teams last played back in February of 2023, falling 46-36. Can Decatur Community avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
