For the second straight game, Elgin will face off against Lawton. Elgin will host Lawton at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Elgin has seven straight wins, Lawton has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Elgin barely beat Lawton the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. Elgin's pitchers stepped up to hand Lawton a 12-0 shutout on Monday. The Owls might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 13 matches by six runs or more this season.
Ritson Meyer and Mason Thornton made a splash no matter where they played. Throwing, Meyer didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. Meanwhile, Thornton pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Those 11 strikeouts gave Meyer a new career-high. At the plate, Meyer went 1-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run, while Thornton scored a run while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.
In other batting news, Elgin got a big performance out of Brody Morrison, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 1-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaxon Southerland, who scored a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
Elgin always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .538. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Lawton only posted an OBP of .217.
Elgin's victory was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 15-1. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.5 runs over those games. As for Lawton, their loss dropped their record down to 2-18.
Lawton's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Elgin hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .411. It's a different story for Lawton, though, as they've only averaged .253. Will they be able to contain Elgin's hitters?
