The Taylor County Bulldogs will take on the Chiles Timberwolves at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Taylor County has given up an average of 10.1 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
Taylor County is headed into Friday's match looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Thursday. They took an 11-7 hit to the loss column at the hands of Lincoln.
Ryver Arnold was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-5 with three RBI and one double. Another player making a difference was Irene Meler, who scored a run while going 3-for-4.
Arnold wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Taylor County kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in April of 2024.
Meanwhile, after only two runs in their last game, Chiles made sure to put some runs up on the board against Lincoln on Wednesday. Everything went Chiles' way against Lincoln as Chiles made off with an 11-1 victory. Considering the Timberwolves have won seven contests by more than six runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Anna Kate Barber was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
In other batting news, Chiles got a massive performance out of Mia Hemenway, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and one double. Adelyn Matthews was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.
Chiles' win bumped their record up to 8-2. As for Taylor County, their loss dropped their record down to 1-8.
Both the two teams just can't seem to miss. Taylor County has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 8.8 hits per game. However, it's not like Chiles struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 4.5 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Taylor County suffered a grim 11-1 defeat to Chiles in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Will Taylor County have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other softball content.
