The Bigelow Panthers will venture away from home to square off against the Woodlawn Bears at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Bigelow took a loss when they played away from home on Monday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. Everything went their way against Mt. Vernon-Enola as they made off with a 15-2 win. The game marked the Panthers' most dominant victory of the season so far.
Arturo Cabrera made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over five innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up a single earned run in four consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 4-for-4 with five RBI, two runs, and one triple. That triple was his first of the season.
In other batting news, Jake Berry was excellent, scoring a run while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Guy Starks also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Bigelow always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .595. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in four consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Woodlawn posted their closest win since May 10, 2024 on Tuesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-1 victory over DeWitt. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Bears.
Ty Motes tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only two hits over five innings pitched.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Peyton Wells, who scored a run and stole three bases while going 1-for-3. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Cash Hargis, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3.
Bigelow's record is now 3-4. As for Woodlawn, their record now sits at 15-3.
Bigelow came up short against Woodlawn when the teams last played back in May of 2022, falling 7-2. Can the Panthers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
