Wakefield School has been on the road for five straight, but on Friday they'll finally head home. Having just played yesterday, they will get right back to it and host Christ Chapel Academy at 4:00 p.m. on January 19th. Wakefield School will be strutting in after a win while Christ Chapel Academy will be coming in after a loss.
On Thursday, Wakefield School strolled past Foxcroft with points to spare, taking the game 27-12. Despite the victory, that was the fewest points Wakefield School has scored all season.
Wakefield School's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Ceci Turner led the charge by scoring seven points along with ten steals. Turner hasn't dropped below two steals for eight straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Aya Mason, who scored six points along with seven rebounds and five blocks.
Meanwhile, Christ Chapel Academy unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Friday. They fell 58-45 to Chelsea Academy.
Despite the loss, Christ Chapel Academy got a solid performance out of Zaria Gaskins, who scored 28 points along with nine steals and five assists. Gaskins hasn't dropped below two steals for four straight games. Another player making a difference was Dasia Smith, who scored five points along with 12 rebounds.
Wakefield School pushed their record up to 9-0 with that victory, which was their eighth straight on the road. As for Christ Chapel Academy, their defeat ended a five-game streak of away wins and brought them to 7-3.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Wakefield School have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 27 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Christ Chapel Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 31.9 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Wakefield School might still be hurting after the 51-26 loss they got from Christ Chapel Academy when the teams last played back in January of 2023. Can Wakefield School avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
