The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in their respective states (Gonzaga is ranked ninth in District of Columbia, while Our Lady of Good Counsel is ranked first in Maryland).
Gonzaga fought the good fight in their overtime match against St. John's on Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Cadets by a score of 23-20. Gonzaga has struggled against St. John's recently, as their game on Saturday was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.
Gonzaga's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Lincoln Fisher, who picked up 189 receiving yards and a touchdown, and Aidan Conrath who threw for 234 yards and three touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Our Lady of Good Counsel had already won seven in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 25.7 points), and they went ahead and made it eight on Friday. They didn't even let Bishop McNamara onto the board and left with a 24-0 win. Our Lady of Good Counsel might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team's won seven matches by 21 points or more this season.
Gonzaga has been struggling recently, as they've lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-4 record this season. As for Our Lady of Good Counsel, they have yet to lose a matchup at home this season, leaving them with a 8-1 record.
Gonzaga suffered a grim 28-6 defeat to Our Lady of Good Counsel in their previous matchup two weeks ago. Can Gonzaga avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
