Softball Recap: Wylie East Makes It Four in a Row on the Road

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Wylie, Wylie East was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They never let the Lakeview Centennial Patriots get on the board and left with a 24-0 win. The Raiders might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight contests by six runs or more this season.

Grace Maddux and Kinley Kovar were a major factor while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Maddux tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Meanwhile, Kovar tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, Maddux posted three strikeouts, the most she's had since back in April of 2024. At bat, Maddux went a perfect 3-for-3 with seven RBI, two stolen bases, and three runs, while Kovar scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.

In other batting news, Isabella Flores was a standout: she fired off two home runs, six RBI, and two stolen bases while going 2-for-3. Those six RBI gave her a new career-high. Jayleigh Dressler was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs.

Wylie East was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .727. They are a perfect 10-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Wylie East's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-8-1. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Lakeview Centennial, they have been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last eight matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-13 record this season.

Coincidentally, Wylie East and Lakeview Centennial will both be playing North Garland the next time they take the field. The Patriots will host the Raiders at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, while the Raiders will head out to face them at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
