If the Washington Huskies were feeling good off their 92-56 takedown of the Arroyo Dons last Wednesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Washington fell 64-56 to American on Thursday. Washington was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as American apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in February of 2023.
Washington's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Gianni Clark, who scored 21 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Dru Anaya, who scored 11 points along with nine assists and two steals.
Washington struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only three offensive rebounds. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as American pulled down 12 offensive rebounds.
Kiratraj Sanghera was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 25 points and 19 rebounds for American. That makes it five consecutive games in which Sanghera has scored at least a third of American's points. Miles Davy was another key contributor, scoring nine points.
Washington's loss dropped their record down to 10-6. As for American, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 11-5 record this season.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Washington will take on Irvington at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. Irvington has now lost ten straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 14. As for American, their homestand continues as they prepare to take on Moreau Catholic at 7:00 p.m. on January 13th. Moreau Catholic has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 551 points over their last eight contests.
