Canistota has enjoyed a three-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will face off against the Gayville-Volin Raiders at 5:15 p.m. on Thursday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in South Dakota (Canistota is ranked 41st, while Gayville-Volin is ranked 56th).
Even though Canistota has not done well against Bridgewater/Emery recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Canistota beat Bridgewater/Emery by the very same score they won with last week: 50-34.
Meanwhile, Gayville-Volin might have been a little too into the holiday spirit, gifting Centerville an easy 55-34 victory. Gayville-Volin has struggled against Centerville recently, as their match on Tuesday was their sixth consecutive lost matchup.
Despite the defeat, Gayville-Volin had strong showings from Maia Achen, who scored 15 points along with nine rebounds, and Taylor Hoxeng, who scored 12 points. That's the first time this season that Achen scored 15 or more points.
Canistota now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Gayville-Volin, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-2.
Canistota was able to grind out a solid victory over Gayville-Volin when the teams last played back in February, winning 44-33. The rematch might be a little tougher for Canistota since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
