Newport Harbor (Newport Beach, Calif.) took the final lead of the game on Saturday as they scored a touchdown with less than a minute remaining, bringing the team to victory over
La Habra (Calif.) 49-48.
By the end of the third, the Sailors found themselves trailing by nine points as the Highlanders captured the lead thanks to three scores in the quarter. La Habra scored on a touchdown run by
Eric Barriere, an
Elijah Carter touchdown run and a touchdown run by
Carlos Martin in the quarter.
LH came in giving up 16.3 points per game this season. The Highlanders had a hard time against Newport Harbor's offense, which entered the game scoring 4.9 points per game.
The defeat comes as a step back for La Habra, which notched a 42-21 victory over Canyon in its previous outing.
