Softball Game Preview: Rosholt Hornets vs. Pittsville Panthers

Rosholt and Pittsville are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2019, but likely not for long. The Hornets will look to take advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they take on the Panthers at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with five consecutive losses dating back to last season for Rosholt and six for Pittsville dating back to last season.

Rosholt is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They lost 19-12 to Northland Lutheran on Tuesday. Even if the Hornets couldn't come away with the victory, the high-scoring effort was a great turnaround for their hitters, which had struggled int the games prior.

Rosholt got a massive performance out of Gracie Flees, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI. Flees also put up a triple, which was her first of the season. Kaylee Filtz was another key player, scoring four runs and stealing six bases while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances.

Meanwhile, Pittsville came up short against Nekoosa on Tuesday, falling 25-6.

Halle Friday made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Kaylee Jacobson, who scored two runs while going 2-for-2.

Rosholt's loss dropped their record down to 0-4. As for Pittsville, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-3.

Pittsville's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Rosholt has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .477. It's a different story for Pittsville, though, as they've only averaged .360. Will they be able to contain Rosholt's hitters?

Rosholt suffered a grim 11-4 defeat to Pittsville in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can the Hornets avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
