Southeast Career Tech is a perfect 6-0 against Cheyenne since March of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Roadrunners will face off against the Desert Shields at 3:30 p.m. The last three games Southeast Career Tech has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
On Thursday, Southeast Career Tech needed a bit of extra time to put away Montgomery. They skirted past the Aztecs 3-2.
Southeast Career Tech saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Bruce Trzpis, who went 2-for-3 with one double. Another was Lucas Jaggers, who got on base in two of his four plate appearances with two RBI.
Meanwhile, Cheyenne posted their closest win since March 6th on Tuesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-3 victory over Desert Pines. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Desert Shields.
Raider Campos made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 12 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits (and not a single walk). He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Taven Thaker was excellent, scoring two runs while going 3-for-3. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Esai Esparza was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.
Southeast Career Tech is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 11-9 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games. As for Cheyenne, their record is now 12-1.
Monday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Southeast Career Tech has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .438. However, it's not like Cheyenne struggles in that department as they've averaged .544. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
