4A Region 3 recap November 13, 2013
Adding to the longest winning streak in 4A Region 3 this week, Gosnell beat Valley View 14-10. The win marks ninth in a row for the the Pirates.
Cave City took down Brookland 54-14 last week, the largest margin of any game.
The Bearcats' offense was unstoppable this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Chase Gage threw for 57 yards and Devon Newton had 50 yards receiving. On the ground Blake Yarbrough contributed 145 yards. Clay Humphrey helped Brookland's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 24 yards.
Yarbrough was a passing and rushing force as Brookland lost to the Cavemen. Yarbrough's favorite target this week was Newton, who caught 3 passes for 50 yards.
Newton was the best receiver in the league this week as Kelly Mills' team lost to Cave City. Humphrey helped Brookland's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 24 yards.
Brookland's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Bearcats feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Drake Rainwater has thrown for 1,005 yards and 12 touchdowns this season, while Newton has 34 catches for 558 yards.
Gosnell made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 4,377 from 5,105. The improvement was the result of a 14-10 victory over the Blazers last week.
