Greenbrier Christian Academy can attribute much of their success to Bayleigh Kaliher, who almost dropped a double-double on 12 points and nine steals, and Katelyn Balka, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 13 boards. Balka is also crushing it when it comes to blocks: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Livia Smith was another key player, putting up five points along with seven rebounds and six steals.
Greenbrier Christian Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in five consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Broadwater Academy hadn't done well against Isle of Wight Academy recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Broadwater Academy walked away with a 38-31 victory over Isle of Wight Academy. Given the Vikings' advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 186th, while the Chargers are ranked 379th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Greenbrier Christian Academy better focus on containing Kacey Ford and Leah Smith as the pair were huge in Broadwater Academy's win. Ford went 5 for 11 en route to 13 points and five steals, while Smith went 5 of 10 on her way to 13 points in addition to six boards and three steals. That's the most steals Ford has posted since back in December of 2023. Another player making a difference was Adrianna Holloway, who posted six points.
Greenbrier Christian Academy pushed their record up to 8-4 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 27.0 points per game. As for Broadwater Academy, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 7-4 record this season.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Greenbrier Christian Academy has been crashing the rebounds this season, having averaged 32.4 boards per game. However, it's not like Broadwater Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging 26.4 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Greenbrier Christian Academy couldn't quite finish off Broadwater Academy in their previous meeting back in January and fell 34-31.
