Baseball Recap: Clairemont Finds Playoff Glory Versus La Jolla

With a playoff win on the line, Clairemont rose to the challenge on Wednesday. They won by a run and slipped past the La Jolla Vikings 3-2. The victory was nothing new for the Chieftains as they're now sitting on nine straight.

Christian Garcia spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on five hits and racked up 16 Ks. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 5.2 strikeouts per game.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Nate Kelly, who went 1-for-2 with two runs and one RBI.

Clairemont pushed their record up to 22-6 with the win, which was their ninth straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.2 runs over those games. As for La Jolla, their defeat dropped their record down to 17-13.

Clairemont does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for La Jolla, they will challenge Bishop's at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Vikings 3.9, the Knights 4) so any runs scored will be well earned.
