The Nikiski Bulldogs's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their eighth straight defeat. They took a 54-46 hit to the loss column at the hands of Eagle River. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Nikiski of the 50-42 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in February of 2020.
Several Bulldogs players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Avery Ellis, who scored 16 points. It was the first time this season that Ellis scored 15 or more points. Shelby Burman was another key contributor, scoring 11 points.
Eagle River's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Brooklyn Rollman, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 17 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Darby Buyse, who scored 14 points along with six rebounds and four steals.
Nikiski's loss dropped their record down to 3-14. As for Eagle River, their victory bumped their record up to 2-12.
Nikiski will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Homer at 6:00 p.m. Nikiski is coming into the game with ten straight defeats at home, meaning Homer will have to defend against a team hungry for a victory. Eagle River will be staying on the road on Tuesday to face off against Chugiak at 6:00 p.m. on February 13th. Hopefully Eagle River focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 19 on Saturday.
