Softball Recap: Foothill Finds Playoff Glory Versus Clark

It's playoff time, and Foothill had no trouble coming through when it counted. They put the hurt on the Clark Chargers with a sharp 16-6 victory on Friday. The result was nothing new for the Falcons, who have now won nine matchups by ten runs or more so far this season.

Isabella Higuera and Camren VanThomme were major factors while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Higuera pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Meanwhile, VanThomme pitched three innings while giving up just one earned (and five unearned) runs off three hits. Higuera has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances. At bat, Higuera went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run, while VanThomme went 3-for-4 with five RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. That's the most RBI VanThomme has posted since back in March of 2024.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kendall Miller, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, two stolen bases, and two runs. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Hailey Gilbertson, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs and one stolen base.

Foothill was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .448. They are 9-2-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Foothill pushed their record up to 11-11-1 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Clark, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 14-9-1.

Looking ahead, Foothill will face off against Desert Oasis at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Falcons' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Diamondbacks have averaged an impressive 9.5 runs per game this season. Clark does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
