With plenty of room to roam,
Chaminade (St. Louis) running back
Rob Standard and his counterpart from
St. Louis University, Terek Hawkins, combined for more than one-third of a mile in rushing yards and scored seven touchdowns collectively in Chaminade's 42-40 victory Friday.

Standard toted the ball for 317 yards and four touchdowns on 26 carries as the Red Devils survived a late game threat by the Jr. Bills to keep a strangle hold on the Metro Catholic League's top spot. Hawkins added 292 rushing yards and three scores on 26 carries in the loss.
"Hawkins had a good night. He's a good back; small and quick," Standard told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch of his peer. "He brought his stuff today. Our defense had their hands full."
While it was Standard and Hawkins who kept the fans on the edge of their seats, Chaminade's defense stepped up and made the play down the stretch to keep the Red Devils' slate clean at 5-0.
With 1:03 remaining in the contest, the Jr. Bills were knocking on the door trailing 42-40. On first-and-goal from the Chaminade 6-yard line, Hawkins fumbled after a short gain and Red Devil linebacker
Andrew Still recovered the miscue. Chaminade then ran the clock out.
Both teams were solid in their aerial assaults as well. Red Devil quarterback
Christian Suntrup was good on 9 of 10 passes and threw for 188 yards, while Trevor McDonagh completed 19 of 30 passes for 231 yards for SLUH.
With the win Chaminade stays perfect and maintains its hold on the No. 2 ranking in the latest Class 5 poll and remains tied with Christian Brothers for the lead in the Metro Catholic race. Chaminade clashes with the Cadets for the MCL title this weekend.
With the loss, St. Louis University High drops to 3-3 on the season and 1-2 in league play.

In typical skilled player style, Nelson threw credit back to the entire Lafayette roster.
"I can't do this without my teammates. They came out here and fought for us seniors," Nelson told the St. Joseph News-Press.
