Baseball Recap: Smithfield's Win on Wednesday Extends Winning Streak to Three

Smithfield put another one in the bag on Wednesday to keep their perfect season alive. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Lafayette Rams, sneaking past 8-6. For the Packers, this counts as revenge for the 4-0 victory the Rams walked away with the last time they faced one another back in April of 2024.

Walton Bondurant made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run any time he's pitched this season. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.

In other batting news, Nick Gaspar was excellent, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-4. Ashton Ellis was another key player, scoring two runs.

Smithfield's record is now 3-0. As for Lafayette, they now have a losing record of 1-2.

We've got plenty of inter-region action coming up soon. Smithfield will face off against rival Warhill at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Lafayette is set to square off against their familiar foe Jamestown at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
