The Wharton Tigers have been a dominant force so far but will be looking to break out of a two-game mini slump. They received a tough blow on Thursday as they fell 64-45 to Lamar. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Wharton came into the contest with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 342nd, while Lamar is ranked 1191st).
Kadyn Smith and Sinahyah martinez certainly did their best on Thursday to try and avoid the loss. Smith scored 8 points along with 11 rebounds and 4 steals, while martinez scored 9 points along with 3 steals. Smith has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last three times she's played. Khelbi Mayberry was another key contributor, scoring 4 points along with 8 rebounds.
Wharton's loss dropped their record down to 10-2. As for Lamar, their win bumped their record up to 2-7.
Wharton won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Madison at 6:00 p.m. on December 1st. Madison is coming into the game hot, having won their last five games. As for Lamar, they will face off against Heights at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. Hopefully Heights focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 16 on Friday.
