Basketball Game Preview: Porter Ridge Pirates vs. Olympic Trojans

Porter Ridge is 0-3 against Olympic since November of 2015 but things could change on Wednesday. The Porter Ridge Pirates will take on the Olympic Trojans in a holiday battle at at 7:30 p.m.

Porter Ridge will head into Friday's match out to bounce back: they won a close one the last time they played, but unfortunately they suffered a serious change of fortune on Friday. They took a blow against Ardrey Kell, falling 80-53. While losing is never fun, the Pirates can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 382nd, while the Knights are ranked 58th).

Despite the loss, Porter Ridge got top-tier performance from Reid Johannes, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and 17 boards. Johannes has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last four times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Ziggy Harris, who made all 5 shots he took to post 13 points.

Meanwhile, Olympic put another one in the bag on Tuesday to keep their perfect season alive. They took down South Mecklenburg 63-48. While the Trojans didn't have the best season last year (they finished 5-20), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Olympic found their leader in sophomore Jaden Hardnett, who posted 13 points.

Olympic pushed their record up to 8-0 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 66.0 points per game. As for Porter Ridge, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-7.

Porter Ridge lost to Olympic on the road by a decisive 80-63 margin in their previous meeting back in December of 2022. Can Porter Ridge avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
