Basketball Recap: Winters Mill Triumphs

It was a Battle of the Birds when Winters Mill duked it out withFrancis Scott Key on Friday. The Winters Mill Falcons sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 45-42 victory over the Francis Scott Key Eagles. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Falcons have posted against the Eagles since February 16, 2022.

Winters Mill found their leader in sophomore Chase Siegel, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 20 rebounds. Those 20 boards set a new season-high mark for Siegel. Another player making a difference was Tate Steckel, who posted seven points and five steals.

Winters Mill smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in three consecutive contests.

Winters Mill's victory bumped their record up to 4-9. As for Francis Scott Key, they dropped their record down to 2-11 with the loss, which was their fourth straight at home.

Winters Mill wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 57-30 defeat against Century on the 28th. Francis Scott Key has also already played their next game, a 72-34 loss against Liberty on the 28th.
