Football Recap: Shiloh Christian Skates Past Southside with Ease

Shiloh Christian faced Southside in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Saints claimed a resounding 52-24 victory over the Mavericks. Considering the Saints have won three games by more than 27 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Shiloh Christian's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Cole Creighton led the charge by throwing for 310 yards and four touchdowns. Creighton's passing game has become a key predictor of the Saints' success: the team is undefeated when his passer rating is 110 or higher, but only 1-2 otherwise. Shiloh Christian also got a significant boost from Max Eldridge, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 93 yards.

Another reason for the win was Shiloh Christian's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for four sacks. Brody Francis was particularly dangerous to the passing game, picking up two himself.

Shiloh Christian has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 4-2 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 50.8 points over those games. As for Southside, they suffered their first home defeat, dropping their record down to 4-2.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. Shiloh Christian will venture away from home to challenge Russellville at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Saints will be up against the Cyclones' rather soft defense (which has allowed 46.83 points per game), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Southside, they will head out on the road to face off against Van Buren at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Mavericks will need to watch out since the Pointers have now posted at least 31 points every time they've taken the field this season.
