Northern recap Oct. 3, 2012
Franklin extended the longest winning streak in Northern this week by beating University, 22-12. This was the team's sixth consecutive win.
Eagle Rock took down Blair 85-0 last week, the largest margin of any game.
Gilbert Soto put up the best numbers through the air as Lincoln topped Santee. He finished with nine completions for 120 yards and two touchdowns. Soto's favorite target this week was Roger Lemus, who caught three passes for 29 yards.
Joshua Taylor was the best wideout in the league this week as Franklin beat the Wildcats. Taylor tallied four receptions for 54 yards. David Verdin helped Franklin's passing attack out by catching three balls for 53 yards.
Steven Herrera was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 104 yards on 14 carries as Eric Jaime's team bested University. Teammate Isreal Royal added to the ground attack by rushing for 25 yards.
5-foot-10 quarterback Soto of the Tigers is the league leader in passing yards this season with 1121. He has also thrown 14 touchdowns. On the ground, the Panthers' Herrera has rushed for 707 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Taylor. The Franklin star has 22 catches for 423 yards.
The top two teams in the league will face off this week when first place Franklin takes on second place Lincoln. Franklin bested Lee Lowe's team last week, while Lincoln topped the Falcons.
There should be lots of points scored when Albert Carrillo's team and the Panthers face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, the Tigers comes in having scored 240 this season, while Franklin has scored 212. Lincoln scored 49 points last week as it defeated Santee.
The Eagles led the league in scoring this week after putting up 85 points on the Vikings.
