Whitehaven has gone 9-0-1 against Overton recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Wednesday. The Tigers will head out on the road to take on the Wolverines at 4:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
It was a proper cat-fight when Whitehaven took on Southwind on Tuesday. The Tigers put the hurt on the Jaguars with a sharp 22-7 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Tigers.
The team relied heavily on Cordae Payne, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Javeione Holmes, who went 3-for-5 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base.
Whitehaven was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .478. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Southwind only posted a batting average of .294.
For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Overton and Kirby meet (three straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Monday. The Wolverines were the clear victors by an 18-10 margin over the Cougars.
Jercorion Wesley made a splash no matter where he played. He tossed four innings while giving up just one earned (and seven unearned) runs off two hits. Wesley was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games he's played.
In other batting news, Marquel Brooks was a standout: he fired off three runs, three doubles, and four RBI while going 5-for-5. He has been hot recently, having also posted at least one stolen base the last four times he's played. Daiquan Dixon was another key player, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one home run, two stolen bases, and three RBI.
Whitehaven's record is now 9-4. As for Overton, their record now sits at 14-8-1.
Whitehaven got the 'W' when the teams last played back in March against Overton by a conclusive 18-3 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Tigers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
