Saucon Valley is on a six-game streak of home wins, while Jim Thorpe is on a four-game streak of away wins (dating back to last season): one of those streaks is about to end. The Panthers will welcome the Olympians at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Saucon Valley lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Palisades, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Monday's match. The Panthers never let the Pirates get on the board and left with a 10-0 victory on Monday.
Noah Hubert made a splash no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 1-for-1 with three RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Cole Hubert, who scored two runs and stole three bases while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Zak Ziegler, who scored two runs while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.
Saucon Valley always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .577. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Palisades only posted an OBP of .263.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Jim Thorpe). Everything went their way against Moravian Academy on Tuesday as they made off with an 18-2 win. With that victory, the Olympians brought their scoring average up to 6.7 runs per game.
Cole Lazorick was a standout: he scored three runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3. He is becoming a predictor of Jim Thorpe's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is undefeated (and 2-4 when he doesn't). Tanner MoDavis was another key player, going 2-for-3 with four RBI and two runs.
Saucon Valley's win bumped their record up to 8-1. As for Jim Thorpe, they now have a winning record of 5-4.
Wednesday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Saucon Valley has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .545. However, it's not like Jim Thorpe struggles in that department as they've averaged .440. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance. Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
