The Millington Cardinals will face off against the Vassar Vulcans at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Millington has five straight wins, Vassar has 22 straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Millington barely beat Unionville-Sebewaing the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Cardinals blew past the Patriots 12-2 on Monday. The Cardinals might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 12 matches by seven runs or more this season.
Morgan Matusik made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out six over five innings pitched. Matusik was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Millington got a massive performance out of Ashlyn Bentoski, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most runs Bentoski has posted since back in April. Kamyrn Blackmer was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three runs, two doubles, and one stolen base.
Millington kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits in four consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Vassar came up short against Reese on Monday, falling 19-2.
Millington pushed their record up to 15-7 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.7 runs over those games. As for Vassar, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-11.
Everything went Millington's way against Vassar when the teams last played back in June of 2019, as Millington made off with a 9-0 victory. Do the Cardinals have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Vulcans turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
