MaxPreps Midwest Top 25 high school football rankings

The top three teams held their own this week in the Midwest Top 25 rankings, but three new teams have made their first appearances.

MaxPreps Midwest Top 25 Football Rankings

1. (1 last week) Archbishop Moeller (Cincinnati) 3-0
The Fighting Crusaders exploded for 43 points in the first quarter en route to an easy 64-13 victory over St. Michael's (Toronto, Ontario, Canada). Gus Ragland ran for a pair of touchdowns and passed for one during limited playing time.
Next: Friday vs. St. Xavier (Louisville, Ky.)

2. (2) Colerain (Cincinnati) 3-0
Senior quarterback Kelvin Cook ran 31 times for 263 yards and two touchdowns to spark a 42-28 victory over Trinity (Louisville, Ky.). Included was a spectacular 95-yard broken-field touchdown run at a crucial point in the game. DeTaun Smith ran 16 times for 113 yards and three touchdowns.
Next: Friday at Lakota East (Liberty Township, Ohio)

3. (3) Mount Carmel (Chicago) 3-0
The Caravan blanked Bishop McNamara (Kankakee, Ill.) 42-0, yielding just 122 yards and forcing three turnovers. Jimmy Mickens ran 10 times for 138 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

4. (5) St. Edward (Lakewood, Ohio) 3-0
The Eagles' air-tight defense allowed just 31 yards during a 49-0 rout of Woodson (Washington, D.C.). Junior Andrew Dowell carried 15 times for 125 yards and two touchdowns, while another junior, Brett Kean, ran for two more touchdowns and passed for a third.
Next: Saturday vs. No. 23 Elder (Cincinnati, Ohio) at John Carroll University

5. (6) Cass Tech (Detroit) 3-0
The Technicians whipped Renaissance (Detroit) 32-6 as Jayru Campbell completed 16 of 19 passes for 198 yards and ran for one touchdown. Will White made nine tackles.

6. (7) St. Xavier (Cincinnati) 2-1
The Bombers shut out traditional power Brentwood Acadamy (Brentwood, Tenn.) 23-0 as the defense forced three turnovers. Nick Tensing took care of the offense by completing 16 of 25 passes for 201 yards and running for a 12-yard touchdown.
Next: Friday vs. Cathedral (Indianapolis)

7. (8) Brother Rice (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) 3-0
The Warriors handed Carman-Ainsworth (Flint, Mich.) its first loss, 31-6, as Alex Malzone completed 10 of 12 passes for 194 yards and two touchdowns. Shon Powell scored on a 92-yard run.
Next: Saturday vs. De La Salle (Warren, Mich.) at Hurley Field

8. (10) Center Grove (Greenwood, Ind.) 4-0
The Trojans nipped then No. 9-ranked Pike (Indianapolis) 14-13. Junior Calvin Daggett ran 12 times for 73 yards in the defensive struggle.

9. (11) Wheaton-Warrenville South (Wheaton, Ill.) 3-0
The Tigers handed previously No. 19-ranked North (Wheaton, Ill.) its first loss, 17-13. Isaiah Campos led the way with 28 carries for 139 yards and one touchdown. Ryan Graham accounted for 140 yards and a pair of touchdowns, one running and one passing.

10. (13) Blue Springs (Mo.) 3-0
The Wildcats defeated Rockhurst (Kansas City, Mo.) 22-7 as junior quarterback Ian Brown — a Rockhurst transfer — dominated his former teammates by completing 13 of 17 passes for 254 yards and three touchdowns.
Next: Friday at West (Lee's Summit, Mo.)

11. (14) Eden Prairie (Minn.) 3-0
In a clash of Minnesota's top two teams, the Eagles flew high with an impressive 42-7 victory over previously No. 15-ranked Totino-Grace (Fridley, Minn.). Anthony Anderson (6-2, 235) ran 15 times for 195 yards and two touchdowns, while Dan Fisher (6-0, 205) scored on an 11-yard screen pass and a four-yard run.
Next: Friday vs. Edina (Minn.)

12. (4) Lawrence Central (Indianapolis) 3-1
The Bears were handed their first loss, 17-7, at Lucas Oil Stadium by then No. 25-ranked Carmel (Ind.), which has been playing a big-time schedule. Quarterback Tyler Redfern scored on a 59-yard run during the third quarter.
Next: Friday vs. No. 8 Center Grove (Greenwood, Ind.)

13. (16) St. Ignatius (Cleveland) 2-1
Senior quarterback John Thomas threw three touchdown passes — two to wide receiver John Hyland — during a 35-8 victory over Strong Vincent (Erie, Pa.).
Next: Saturday vs. McDowell (Erie, Pa.)

14. (9) Pike (Indianapolis) 2-2
The Red Devils were nipped, 14-13, by then No. 10-ranked Center Grove (Greenwood, Ind.). Brent Lyles completed 15 of 26 passes for 178 yards and scored on a three-yard run. Their other previous loss was to No. 1-ranked Moeller (Cincinnati) by four points.

15. (17) Glenbard West (Glen Ellyn, Ill.) 2-1
The Hilltoppers handed Downers Grove North (Downers Grove, Ill.) its first loss, 21-0, after it had won two shutout games. Scott Andrews gained 125 yards on 24 carries and scored one touchdown. The defense yielded 142 yards.
Next: Friday at Lyons (LaGrange, Ill.)

16. (18) Dowling (West Des Moines, Iowa) 3-0
The Maroons used a 28-point first quarter to spark a 42-14 victory over Ankeny (Iowa). Ryan Boyle dominated by completing 11 of 15 passes for 225 yards and two touchdowns and running for two additional touchdowns.
Next: Friday at Urbandale (Iowa)

17. (20) Lincoln-Way East (Frankfort, Ill.) 3-0
The Griffins handed Stagg (Palos Hills, Ill.) its first loss 41-0 as Jordan Wirtz completed 19 of 26 passes for 212 yards and ran for a pair of touchdowns. Alex Kraft scored on three short runs.

18. (21) Montini (Lombard, Ill.) 3-0
The Broncos marched to touchdowns on their first seven possessions en route to a 56-0 victory over Wheaton Academy (West Chicago, Ill.). Alex Wills passed for 139 yards and two touchdowns and ran for one touchdown — all in the first half. Nicholas Italia scored twice on just five carries.

19. (22) Xavier (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) 3-0
Leading just 2-0 at halftime, the Saints broke loose in the second half for a 23-0 victory over Prairie (Cedar Rapids, Iowa). Brendan Miller gained 115 yards on 22 carries and scored twice, while Quinton Scholer passed for 108 yards and one touchdown. The defense yielded only 92 yards.
Next: Friday at Wahlert (Dubuque, Iowa)

20. (23) Homestead (Mequon, Wis.) 4-0
The Highlanders scored twice in the final 4:30 to defeat Grafton (Wis.), 35-28. Eric Wade rushed for 131 yards, including the winning five-yard touchdown with 53 seconds remaining. Nick Allen carried 11 times for 98 yards and two touchdowns.

21. (25) Carmel (Ind.) 2-2
Playing a rugged schedule, the Greyhounds finally posted a major victory by handing previously No. 4-ranked Lawrence Central (Indianapolis) its first loss in 19 games, 17-7 at Lucas Oil Stadium. Adam Kremer kicked field goals of 38, 30 and 28 yards, while Mitch Davis made two interceptions.

22. (19) Wheaton North (Ill.)  2-1
The Falcons were handed their first loss, 17-13 by then No. 11-ranked Wheaton-Warrenville South (Wheaton, Ill.). Clayton Thorson completed 18 of 38 passes for 225 yards and ran for two touchdowns.
Next: Friday vs. Naperville North (Ill.)

23. (NR) Elder (Cincinnati) 3-0
The Panthers defeated Howell (St. Charles, Mo.) 34-21 as senior Chris Schroer ran 32 times for 166 yards and four touchdowns.

24. (NR) Maize (Kan.) 2-0
The Eagles stunned talented South (Salina Kan.), 40-28, as junior quarterback Connor Lungwitz celebrated his 17th birthday by completing 23 of 32 passes for 160 yards and four touchdowns. Senior Case White ran for 153 yards and scored three touchdowns.
Next: Friday at Derby (Kan.)

25. (NR) Lincoln (Sioux Falls, S.D.) 3-0
The No. 2 Patriots edged state No. 1-ranked Roosevelt (Sioux Falls, S.D.) 35-28. Senior Caden Quintanilla (5-8, 175) dominated by carrying 37 times for 239 yards and two touchdowns — including the clincher with less than two minutes left. Connor Burchill passed for 162 yards and three touchdowns, while Paul Thanel made two interceptions.
Next: Friday vs. Watertown (S.D.)

No. 12 Ben Davis (Indianapolis, Ind.) lost to Warren Central (Indianapolis, Ind.) 24-7.
No. 15 Totino-Grace (Fridley, Minn.) lost to then No. 14 Eden Prairie (Minn.) 28-7.
No. 24 Millard West (Omaha, Neb.) lost to Burke (Omaha, Neb.) 23-21.
