The Paul VI Panthers''s three-game losing streak came to an end on Saturday. They claimed a resounding 45-7 victory over Saint John Paul the Great Catholic on the road. Given Paul VI's advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia football rankings (they are ranked 75th, while Saint John Paul the Great Catholic is ranked 282nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Gavin Colby was the offensive standout of the matchup as he rushed for 74 yards and two touchdowns. Nate Hoskins was another key contributor, throwing for 95 yards and two touchdowns while completing 75% of his passes.
Paul VI now has a winning record of 5-4. As for Saint John Paul the Great Catholic, their defeat was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their overall record down to 1-8.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Paul VI will take on Bishop O'Connell at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Bishop O'Connell comes in on a streak of failing to score more than six points in their last three games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse. As for Saint John Paul the Great Catholic, they will play host again and welcome Archbishop Carroll, where Kickoff is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. on Saturday. Hopefully Archbishop Carroll focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up six on Friday.
