Brennan Walker and Bryson Walker were major factors no matter where they played. On the mound, Walker struck out seven batters over 4.1 innings while giving up four earned runs off five hits (and only one walk). Meanwhile, Bryson tossed 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Brennan has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. At bat, Walker got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one RBI, while Bryson went 2-for-4 with four stolen bases and two runs. Bryson is becoming a predictor of Telstar's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 1-4 when he doesn't).
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Connor Deprey, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Another player making a difference was Brayden Easterlin, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
Telstar was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .393. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Buckfield only posted a batting average of .185.
Meanwhile, Rangeley Lakes was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their ninth straight loss. They came up short against Carrabec, falling 17-7. On the bright side, the seven- run effort marked the Lakers' highest-scoring game to date.
Ryder Sargent made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. That run marked the first that he has scored this season. Sam Morrill was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run.
Rangeley Lakes' defeat dropped their record down to 0-9. As for Telstar, their record now sits at 8-4.
Rangeley Lakes' pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Telstar hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .380. It's a different story for Rangeley Lakes, though, as they've only averaged .163. Will they be able to contain Telstar's hitters?
Everything went Telstar's way against Rangeley Lakes when the teams last played two weeks ago, as Telstar made off with a 10-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Rebels since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
