The Cahokia Comanches's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their tenth straight defeat. They were dealt a 61-27 loss at the hands of Mt. Vernon. Cahokia was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 36-15.
Cahokia's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Donald Collier, who scored seven points, and Corrion Raiford who scored six points.
Mt. Vernon got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Navontae D nesbit jr. out in front who scored 14 points along with seven rebounds and two blocks. It was the first time this season that D nesbit jr. posted two or more blocks. Marlin Price was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with five rebounds.
Cahokia dropped their record down to 1-22 with that defeat, which was their 12th straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Mt. Vernon, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 20-7 record this season.
Cahokia is on the road again on Monday and plays the Lions at 7:00 p.m. on February 5th. As for Mt. Vernon, they won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against the Rams at 2:15 p.m. on February 3rd. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Illinois (Manual is ranked 49th, while the Rams are ranked 54th).
