Wooster hasn't had much luck against Truckee recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Colts will venture away from home to face off against the Wolverines at 4:00 p.m. Wooster is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.5 runs per game this season.
Wooster managed to slip by North Valleys the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Colts came up short against the Panthers on Saturday, falling 14-8.
Chris Ballard made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances. He also put up a double, which was his first of the season. Noah Gonsalves was another key player, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.
Meanwhile, Truckee got themselves on the board against Hug on Saturday, but Hug never followed suit. They blew past the Hawks 18-0. The result was nothing new for the Wolverines, who have now won eight games by six runs or more so far this season.
The team relied heavily on Logan Arata, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with six RBI, four runs, and one stolen base. Those six RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Calvin Curtis, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.
Truckee was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .455. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in four consecutive contests.
Truckee has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-6 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games. As for Wooster, their loss dropped their record down to 7-6-1.
Monday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Wooster hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .368. However, it's not like Truckee struggles in that department as they've averaged .332. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Wooster came up short against Truckee when the teams last played back in March, falling 8-5. Can the Colts avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
