Dobson is 0-4 against Seton Catholic since April of 2016 but things could change on Thursday. The Dobson Mustangs will square off against the Seton Catholic Sentinels at 7:00 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
Dobson had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They were the clear victor by a 19-3 margin over Apache Junction on Wednesday. The win continues a trend for the Mustangs in their matchups with the Prospectors: they've now won four in a row.
Santiago Hinostroza was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Furthermore, he didn't allow a single earned run, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in March of 2024. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run while getting on base in both of his plate appearances.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Brenston Velasquez, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March of 2024. Aaron Mutascio was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 3-for-3.
Dobson always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .683. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Apache Junction only posted an OBP of .500.
Meanwhile, Seton Catholic sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 10-8 victory over ALA - Gilbert North on Wednesday.
Drew Campagna looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off two hits.
At the plate, Tialoc Del Rosario was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Chase Ries, who scored two runs while going 3-for-5.
Dobson might still be hurting after the 21-6 loss they got from Seton Catholic when the teams last played back in February of 2023. Can Dobson avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
