Colony is 1-7 against South Anchorage since April of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Saturday. The Knights will challenge the Wolverines at 12:00 p.m. Colony will be looking to extend their current nine-game winning streak.
Colony is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Juneau-Douglas a 15-0 shutout. Considering the Knights have won 25 contests by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Kaidence Browning made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs off four hits. Browning was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Morgan Gallagher was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Saibree Noll, who went 1-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.
Colony was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .636. The last time their batting average was this high was back in May of 2024.
Meanwhile, South Anchorage faced Chugiak in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Wolverines were the clear victors by a 12-3 margin over the Mustangs. The high-scoring effort was just what the Wolverines needed considering they were shut out in their previous game.
The team relied heavily on Adriana Jones, who went 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Catie Newall, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
South Anchorage is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-7 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.5 runs over those games. As for Colony, their victory was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 34-8-1.
Colony couldn't quite get it done against South Anchorage in their previous matchup back in May as they fell 8-5. Can the Knights avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
